Rowing With The Changing Tide

I don’t know how much anyone reading this knows about the changes that are going on with social media, but as Dylan said: the times, they are a changing.

I want to start by having the disclaimer that all this is from what I know from the publishing sphere, especially the indie and self-publishing parts of that sphere. The boom in recent years that has led to these kinds of publishing ventures becoming not just accepted and respected, but legitimate roads to even full-time dedication to one’s craft, was in big part thanks to social media. People who did not have the resources of a big publishing house could still get their work out there. So I am basing all these updates on what I have learned about this.

The first thing I feel I need to make clear is that I am not eliminating anything in my socials. I still have Tumblr, I won’t be leaving Twitter until it is literally unsalvagable. I am, however, going to start making more of a presence in others. So I am planning to post a bit more on all of them…yes even the FB page.

The next thing I want to do is give this blog a bit more like. I plan on doing regular updates following a template I made. I won’t be trying to make everything I write just a long-form essay. I feel I will be keeping those on Medium to have this be a more like bloggy thing, as in just me talking and updating.

However, I do have a third thing. This will not be instant since I need to set up the whole thing but I will be starting a newsletter. So far the plan is a monthly one, it will have some updates, if I have published something on Medium it will be linked there as well. The updates at the moment will be about the projects I am working on and other writerly things with some slice-of-life things as well. But the goal is they eventually will be updating about releases and all self-pub things. So keep an eye out for that if you would want to know more about that as well.

As I said times change. And I was dangerously close to putting all my eggs in one basket. I still kind of did but it’s more like I noticed I won’t be able to lift the basket because a few slid off. Consider this me making sure the rest of the eggs don’t suffer so I got a few more baskets. Until next time!
